FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions, Answered

FAQ: FAQ

DO I HAVE TO BE GOING ON A YEAR ABROAD NEXT YEAR TO JOIN?

This community serves a purpose for all students at all stages.
You may be a student about to embark on your YA and BSA UK may offer you a community while abroad.
You could be a student just starting university, or even in school, thinking about doing a YA, and other BSA UK members may answer any queries you have.
You might have already travelled abroad, in which case you become the voice of wisdom and experience.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE?

BSA UK is not an exclusive members-only club, however signing up does help! You'll be in the mailing list (which you can opt out of) and be the first to receive info about future events, etc!
In terms of attending events (webinars, etc.), there's no need to be a member per se

HOW OFTEN DOES BLACK STUDENTS ABROAD UK MEET?

BSA UK is more of a network, and (if all goes to plan) will be in different parts of Europe, be it France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, etc.

Hopefully regional communities will build and it's then up to the members whether they feel comfortable meeting with each other.

For now, there aren't any official meetings / in-person events lined up

DO I HAVE TO BE BLACK TO BE A MEMBER?

We have no intention of preventing non-Black students from signing up, however the inspiration for BSA UK was the unique Black experience* when travelling.
*It should be noted that each person's experience is different, however there are commonalities when travelling for many Black and mixed-race students.
(This is not to dismiss any concerns other marginalised/minority groups may have)

WHICH COUNTRIES DOES THIS COVER?

For now, we hope to cover several European countries, as a lot of YA students go to these countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium) hence it is more likely that a regional/city community can develop.
It is by no means limited to these places, but rather wherever there are Black students on a YA willing to connect with other Black students.
